A Walton club which teaches a rare form of martial arts needs to find 10 members for a new course by September 14.

Non-profit organisation Sendokan, who have a club in the Xcel Leisure Complex in Waterside Drive, are looking to start the course to bring awareness to Aikido, a philosophical Japanese martial art.

Instructor Rod White travells from his home in Uxbridge twice a week to train his five pupils who live in the area.

He said: “I want to set up the course to bring awareness to Aikido, because at the moment no one knows anything about it.

“We need to find 10 people to pay for the hiring cost of the leisure centre, and if we don’t get them we can’t run it. If we get five or six we could split the cost but it would be more expensive.”

Rod has a black belt in Judo and Aikido, and has been into the sport for 25 years.

One of his pupils, Dr Narinder Kondel, 37, of Mayfield Gardens, said: “I used to go to the gym but it was boring, and this is a great way to keep fit.”
